This dress is so amazing, I found it here in SF at a vintage store in the mission. It reminds me so much of my mothers wedding dress which is long lost. Not only is it a great replacement for that but it fits me perfectly and I'm almost certain it's handmade!

Life is good here! I've been having way to much fun to keep up with blogging. For one I got this great vintage french bicycle that I have been spending lots of time with. She is so much fun! The weather in the city has been amazing so riding my bike has been happening lots. I convinced another one of my friends to get a bicycle so I am awaiting her bike to arrive so we can adventure all together.

Whirlwind adventures

Life had been crazy with my multiple out of town house guests. This all in addition to the giants winning the world series and halloween/day of the dead. This city had been so fun and energetic. It's now time to relax for a while before the holidays start up.

I am mostly posting to my new blog now so update your readers if you are so inclined to Frump Chic on Tumblr.

This is the headdress I made for the day of the dead celebration in the Mission, it was amazing as usual. I also wore a huge white hoop skirt as well as a beautiful, cream colored rhinestone and pearl, lace shirt. I looked like a dead bride, it was great! This was a photo before makeup and the outfit.

This is a photo my best friend shot of me on our way to the burning man decompression party a few weeks ago. I didn't know it existed until a few minutes ago when I was tagged on FB, the comments are already funny. Yes they are real! :)

Indian Summer

Oh how I love the late summers we have here in SF. I was so lucky to have my best friend from grade 8 come visit me for the burning man decompression party. The day was beautiful in every way, the weather was perfect, the love was in the air and we managed to have more fun than I thought possible.

Here I am with Jenny, she's wearing the headdress I made for last years Halloween costume, it looks so much better on her since she has the "native" look. I am wearing the necklace I made.

I am obsessed with the vest that Jenny is wearing, it's her aunts which the younger girls have taken over with much opposition. Jenny has some Cherokee in her and it's from another tribe but either way it's gorgeous.

I 've been the worst blogger lately; I promise I haven't abondoned my blog, things have just been really busy. I'm working 45 hour weeks now, this from working about 25. The first fashion show I have done in 3 years was last night, it was a interesting experience. I made all the clothes, jewelry, and headdresses except for the gorgeous mohawk hat by Janell Francois. I also did all the hair for the show, which I kept pretty simple since I had so many head pieces. Jessica Brown was the makeup artist and she was amazing, we didn't have time to get to all of us but you can definitely tell which ones are pro.

The next time I would like to have more time to get ready, start at the designated time so my announcer is there and have a much larger crowd. But it was good to get in the flow again and feel inspired.

A friend of mine had a fancy birthday party at Harry Denton's starlight room. Everyone was looking dapper. I decided to go with a 40's look inspired by the notebook. I love that movie, it's so romantic. I cry every time. I must have been looking good because every gross guy in the place was groping me on the dance floor, why do guys think that is o.k? I am so excited to say that the brand new salon I am going to be working for passed the final inspection today. That means we will be opening in a few days and I couldn't be more excited. All the stress of waiting and having no income is about to come to a close. The salon is beautiful, modern, colorful and in a amazing location. I am already in love with my coworkers too, which is so pleasant.

This is a outfit I wore a class at the salon yesterday. I was really digging this outfit. This might be one that I repeat again maybe with different accessories. I tend to never wear the same thing twice but this dress and shirt are a great combo, if I do say so myself.

It was amazing to finally get to see them live after being a huge fan for 6 years! Sunday was the 40th anniversary of Gay Pride festivities in San Francisco! This was the first time I attended the SF version. I have previously attended the Seattle festivities but San Francisco definitely takes it up a notch. First of all, I have never seen so many people, happy people, all in one place. It was hard to walk anywhere cause the crowds were so intense. We saw the backstreet boys in the parade and then performing on the main stage, people were so excited to see them, it was crazy. They were great performers, their dancing was super tight. My friend Sarye and I met lots of nice people and managed to have a blast.

Continuing with my perfect week, I attended a amazing outdoor party on Sunday. It was on Treasure Island right across from San Francisco. The "sunset parties" are put on by Pacific Sound and are some of the most fun events of the summer, in and around SF. Some friends and I, took off pretty early and were among the first 100 people there at around noon. The number of people quickly grew to around 1000. Not only did I go with some amazing ladies I also ran into tons of friends that I didn't even know would be there, gotta love that!

Retro Summer

I have been feeling really amazing the last few days. After all the changes in my life, I am finally settling back into my own reality, nicely. I love my new apartment, it already feels like home which is of utter importance to me. It's so bright and cheery so every day when I wake up I feel bright and cheery too.

Yesterday, I walked over to the farmers market to get some fresh produce, it was a lovely day for a stroll. I ended up getting all kinds of goodies including some beautiful roses. Today, I was going to wear shorts and a tee and have a casual day, but instead, I decided on this vintage blouse. I just love the light pastel color and the sheerness. The way I usually go about choosing my outfits is with one certain piece in mind, as in the shorts earlier and then the blouse. I build the rest of the outfit based on the starting piece. Most times it evolves by the time I leave the house. How do you choose your outfits? I always wonder how others do it. Let me know!

This outfit is much more my "Seattle" style. When I lived in Seattle I wore mostly vintage dresses, I still love to, but I like to experiment with more modern looks now as well. This outfit was so inexpensive too.

Here I am back to shooting my own outfit shots. At least my apartment is really cute and clean now. I had to purchase some new pants since I lost about 10 pounds in the last few months, I was lucky to find these and another pair, both Levis one pair was 5$ and these were 10$. The good thing about living in the shopping district is that I have patience and like to go search for deals. I am 2 blocks from HnM, 3 from F21 and 4 from Marshall's and Ross. It's dangerous, I need to start working more. In my old neighborhood, I was 3 blocks from all the thrift stores and it was much more my style but luckilly I am still fairly close to some thrifts and others are a short train ride away.

Derosa Art Preserve and My Band of Colorful Characters

First of all, let me apologize for my lack of presence here. Having just moved I was hoping for a free internet connection which I did have, but it only lasted a few days. I have now bitten the bullet and paid for it. It's well worth it, I was getting so bored.

Last weekend, some friends and I went to the Derosa Art and Nature preserve in Napa. It was one of the most interesting places I have been, in the area. I highly recommend visiting if you live close by and if you plan on coming to the bay area. They have the largest regional art collection in the United States and quite possibly the world. There was so much to see that I plan to go back in July with my mom, when she is here. There were no photos allowed inside which is where most of the art is so these are all just outside shots.

I was so excited to see so much work by David Best, who I was already a huge fan of. His art is really touching and invokes many emotions. I saw a sculpture which was about the invasion of Poland by the Nazi's, it was a full size horse with a young boy on a carriage, it was really dingy looking with jewish stars and symbols all over it and underneath it was a pile of ashes, very intense and beautiful.

These last two are from a event called ShowNuff I attend every friday night at 111 Minna. My friend Conrad (playing the guitar) books the happy hour with live music which is so much fun. It's free to get in with drink specials and great local live bands and is every friday from 5-9. This Friday Kalri$$ian will be playing, who I preform with. Come on out and see us! Im all moved into my new studio, I love my new hood and my place is so cute. It's nice to live alone so far, I'm sure I will get lonely but for now I am enjoying it. I finally figured out a place in my apartment where I get internet for free, wooo hoooo. I just hope it lasts.

I decided to turn a old belt into some boot straps earlier today, I'm so happy with the results. It was a Zara belt that was super long so it looked like 2 belts. It never really fit right, so I chopped it up, added the smaller studs that I already had and wallah..... it's perfect!

What a pleasant surprise to run into someone I admire. Last night I went to a happy hour with a friend and afterwards we stepped into a local dive bar to have a drink and wallah.....Amy Sarabi! For those who are unaware, she was on the most recent Project Runway, yes the one that Seth Aaron won. Seth Aaron lives in my home town and I adore him. I was rooting for him to win. First because of the home town connection and then because of his talent. Amy had nothing but great things to say about Seth Aaron and told me that she agreed his win was well deserved. She joked that he would have completed a whole suit by the time she had finished a half of a pair of leggings. The show was apparently even more stressful than it looks on T.V, she mentioned they usually only got about 10 hours to complete the garments. Amy was a absolute doll, I was nervous about talking to her because I didn't want to act all star struck but she was just a normal gal albeit a very talented one. She also said she loved my outfit which was such a complement coming from her! Luckily I took some photos of my outfit before I left home.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I am going through a breakup (after 5 years) and trying to figure out where to live, ect. I did find a place and am very happy with the location and the studio. I will have 2 huge walk in closets which is a dream come true! In addition to the large closets I will have lots of natural light which is something I am lacking now too. The apartment is a studio in a old 1020's building so it's not huge but the closet space will make up for it and everything will be really organized.

In the mean time I have a couple random outfit shots that didn't make it on the blog, they are a little silly so bare with me. Things should be getting back to normal in a couple weeks. Thanks for your support!

My new header is courtesy of one of my favorite people who also happens to be an amazing artist! Her name is Mary Thomas, she is a watercolor artist living in New Mexico. Her and I used to be house mates in Seattle years ago. I've always loved her paintings and feel lucky to have a few of my own to gaze at endlessly. Recently I contacted her about using one of her images for my header, she happily obliged. I wanted to use the painting she did of me a couple years ago but unfortunately it is long gone, sold. She doesn't even have a photo of it, I guess I should have saved the picture from her website when I had the chance!

Vertigo!

One of my favorite old movies is Vertigo, (hence the black and white photos for today). Vertigo is a great, Hitchcock movie filmed in San Francisco. Crissy field which can be seen in a scene in the movie is where I hung out with friends on Sunday. For the movie, they built some stairs that were temporary and can be seen when the leading lady walks down to the water and then is saved by her leading man. In the shot you can see the Golden Gate bridge in the background. This was my first time hanging out here for more than a drive through. Some of my friends and I had a BBQ to which I owe all the credit to my friend Sanjay who got to the park at 8:00 am to get the best spot he could find. I showed up much later to find a sweet spot with lots of great people, food an beverages. Luckily, I met some great new friends and had a blast hanging out in the sun. Sidewalk Sale

Sunday was a gorgeous day for a sidewalk sale. Some of my lady friends and I have been planning a sale for a few weeks. We were so happy that the weather was finally warm, after all the rain I was beginning to forget what sunshine was. Living across from a really popular park makes for a busy sale. It was a perfect location to sell off some unwanted goods, Dolores park was packed. We had such a fun day and I met some really nice people. I love when people find the things that were meant for them.

We had a cute puppy visitor. I love the girls pants and sandals in this photo. This dog was named BeeBot and had the prettiest eyes.

This lovely lady found this dress from India that my friend was selling. The bird had found her a few hours earlier in a different neighborhood and wouldn't leave her shoulder. She now is the happy owner of a new bird. She has never had one before, it was such a sweet story.

A new friend of mine is a professional photographer. Aubrie Pick is so sweet and adorable, she looks just like Anna Paquin who I adore as well. She found this great spot while walking her dog and asked me to be the model in which I happily obliged. We shot the photos at dusk, the lighting was so amazing. This shot is just the first of many that she has edited so there is way more to come. This shot was actually one of the last shots, we had not planned on shooting in front of this door, it was a after thought. The other shots were on stairs, balconies and the driveway at this old apartment building. I had so much fun modeling, I wish I had someone to do my outfit photos all the time! I styled the outfit, makeup and hair. Sorry the picture is so small, thats how it came to me via Facebook.

The rain has subsided long enough to finally wear my new spring dresses. This is the one that I altered from a longer silhouette with crazy poofy sleeves. These old blue tights I've had for years were a perfect addition to the outfit. The carpet bag is a new find from last week in unbelievably great condition. I had been wanting one but they are few and far between in thrift shops, especially ones in perfect vintage condition, yea!!

After quite a long hiatus on the performance front, I had the pleasure of performing with a crazy awesome hip hop/lounge group this past weekend. Kalri$$ian is composed of mc's and a d.j. who rap about serious business aka drugs, alcohol and the ladies. Think.... Too Short in a 70's ear Boogie Nights atmosphere. These guys are so much fun and really talented. A few of them are also in a couple other groups, Celsius 7 and Psychokinetics. I had a absolute blast hanging out with them and my other fellow dancing kitty.

Today is a perfectly stormy spring day. I decided to go to the local charity shop and see what they had to offer. This particular place is one of my favorites in the area, a place I have found many treasures and today was no exception. The best thing about Community Thrift is that they donate to many different charities, when you donate your goods you can choose from a list of hundreds of great causes. Being that it's raining today made for a great thrifting experience. There were not many people out and the selection was spectacular.

My search for the perfect cream crochet dress is finally over. I have been looking for months, all over the place, from online to vintage stores. The ones I have found were always too long and too expensive. This one is short, fits perfectly and has gold threads mixed in. The best thing is, besides needing a few simple repairs, it's in great condition. The thrifting gods were most definitely aligned today, just another reason to believe that the world is on my side. Have I mentioned I am reading "Pronoia the Antidote for Paranoia" By Rob Brezsny, a great positive book, I highly recommend it.

I've also been on the hunt for some more summer dresses as the one I have been wearing constantly, needs some company. Today, I also found this long vintage dress from the 60's, it has a great fit in the waist and the colors and print are very pretty. I also really adore the little pocket details and the exposed zipper down the front, metal of corse (a sign of the age of the garment). The problem was the length and the sleeves. As soon as I got home I grabbed the scissors and got to work. I took a seam ripper to the sleeves, cut a about a foot off the length and took in the sides in at my bust. The finished project is perfect, I can't wait until this weather clears up to wear it. It might just be my Easter dress, weather permitting!

DIY bunny ears

I was invited to a rooftop party on Sunday with the theme of "Zombie Bunny Brunch". I wanted to make some bunny ears to wear that were unique and fun. I have made feathered bunny ears in the past with pink and white feathers but this time I wanted it to be a little more organic and pretty. All the feathers are from the pheasants that my dad sent me. He is a hunter so I have a great resource for feathers. I love that I am helping to use all the parts to the bird. I grew up eating mostly hunted meat and feel that it was a healthy, economic and tasty way for my dad to feed the family. I started this process by cutting out two cardboard ears, then covered them with a stretchy fabric. Next I covered the front with feathers then began to add the layers. I added the leftover fluffy parts that I cut off from the bottom of the feathers to cover the back (I used the tops of the feathers where that are much prettier for the front). This project took about a hour and a half. I am so excited to wear these and have the most unique bunny ears there. Now.......to find a zombie outfit to match!

After the party we are heading to Dolores park for the crazy easter, mad tea party they have every year, sponsored by the sisters of perpetual indulgence.

Nooks, Crannies And My New Obsession!

I've been reading a lot of online decorating blogs lately which has made me really think about "my" style of decorating. I have a very eclectic aesthetic, I like tribal, antique, folk, gypsy and boudoir. I'm pretty all over the place but somehow I make it work.

Since living in San Francisco, I have purchased so many gorgeous art pieces from thrift stores. I have managed to decorate my entire apartment with thrifted art that matches my taste and goes together. It's really wild actually. I believe that everything happens for a reason and if this collection is any indication, the universe wants me to be happy. I have recently decided that I wanted to have a "animal" to collect. You know how lots of people really love owls or frogs or which ever animal speaks to them. I decided my animal of choice would be peacocks, I have always loved them. The bright colors, the crazy huge feathers, it just seemed perfect for me to collect something so bold and eclectic. A few months ago while on a wine tasting excursion to Napa I found a beautiful old metal peacock music box at a yard sale. I'm pretty sure that sparked my interest, or at least reaffirmed it. Since then I have noticed a few other peacock things around the house, unknowingly having picked them out. I guess it's meant to be.

Yesterday I went to the local thrift to try to find more wooden hangers and managed to find some satin ones too, I came home with about 12 more and 2 amazing framed Vogue cover prints, one of which has a peacock. Another sign that the universe gives you what you want! This post is going to be very photo heavy but I wanted to show my collection of things I have managed to collect in San Francisco thrift stores by not spending much money! Here goes........

Edit: I looked up the meaning of Peacock in terms of symbolism!

I am beginning to think that I will wear this dress (and apparently these shoes too) everyday this summer. It's pretty much perfect. I've been searching for more of these project dresses that I can chop up and make perfect like I did with this one. It started out much longer and very frumpy then I turned it into FRUMP CHIC!, at least I like to think so! It reminds me sort of of something by Marc Jacobs. I love the weird prints, patterns and ruffles.

Before noon today, we had driven all over the city. Had breakfast in the marina (which we usually avoid) then a walk on Baker beach followed by a drive down Haight and Castro and to Dolores park where I had a picnic with some lady friends. What a lovely day! There were so many cute dogs out today, after being aggressively barked out this morning by a mean one (tied to a poll), it was nice to meet so many sweet/normal dogs.

I really have no idea how I'd never heard of the once weekly flea market in San Francisco (The Alemany Flea Market). I mean really, I feel so out of the loop. My friend told me about this place about a week ago and we decided to get up early and go check it out. I thought it was great, it was more like thrift store prices than the Alemeda market which is once a month in Oakland. I found the latter to be a bit overpriced, but this is also coming from me being a avid thrift and bargain shopper. The market had a bit of everything, from imports to antiques, clothing and lots of orchids and plants. There were a few booths of vintage clothing that had some great things. I found a beautiful kimono that I almost purchased, but considering I already have two, I passed. I did buy some more vintage wooden hangers, the small ones that are really cute, for a great deal. I'm starting a collection. I also found the cutest Art Nuevo brass pin with a depiction of a women who looks like a cross between a pirate and a victorian dame.

The vintage doctor bag that still contained all the implements and a death certificate signed by the original doctor from the 60's. My friend purchased it, minus the implements for 25$, a great deal. She managed to keep the death certificate as the man was going to throw it away.

My first purchase! Isn't she pretty and a bargain at 2$.

I already had about 1/3 of whats pictured and was excited to have found a bunch more today! I'm looking forward to having all pretty hangers eventually.

This weekend was so beautiful in San francisco. I was so lucky to get to go back to my favorite spot in San francisco, Stow Lake. It is a magical place that sits next to Strawberry Hill. I also watched the sunset at Ocean Beach, it was a lovely day.

Sorry my posts are lagging, I have been going through some personal things and have some stuff to take care of.

In better news, I also have something really amazing to look forward to this weekend. A amazing photographer, Alex Farnum who lives on my block is doing a 2 day shoot for a new batch of portraits and I am blessed to be one of the models. He is a extremely well published and just won a photography award. Please check out his work, it's stunning! Did I mention how excited I am. I did some modeling when I was younger and have always loved being photographed, even though I do it myself now which is hard. Wish me luck with having a good hair/makeup/body day!

After putting this jacket on today I started thinking about some pieces in my closet that are timeless. Things that you can have forever that go in and out of style but will always come back. Military style is one of those among others that you can count on coming back eventually. I have a habit of holding onto things I love for a long time. I have had this jacket for about 10 years, yes again I am old. Even after attempting to give it away to a co-worker years ago who then gave it back because he never wore it. Days off can be so rewarding. Today after drinking a huge cup of coffee I was so inspired to create. Coffee can change my demeanor dramatically. I need any motivation I can get to stop reading fashion blogs all day. I'm fairly certain I need to drink it everyday instead of just sometimes. It really motivates me like nothing else. I recived a lovely package of feathers in the mail today (thanks mom). My father is a hunter so he has quite a few whole pheasants laying around, they are such beautiful creatures. Over the holidays he gave me a few since I had been running out of feathers. I was so excited to get them that I immediately starting making things.

I have been wanting to make a braided headband for a while. After attempting it, the size was a bit too small for the headband which led me to the idea to put feathers underneath it to make a combo of feathers and a braid. It's great that the faux hair matches my color so perfectly! I am really liking this, my plan is to make some more to sell in my Etsy store. I want to say thanks to the beautiful creatures who made it possible to make these things. I love being able to use all the parts of things and my father hunted these for the food but art was made as well.

I shared a great day with some friends on Wednesday. The weather was absolutely perfect which has now turned back to rain. We started out in the park across from my house and had a picnic and some nice white wine. As we drank the beautiful nectar we chatted about life, work and men. We ended the night with music from my favorite local band, Gaucho who plays amazing gypsy jazz. Gaucho makes me feel like I live in a bygone era, like I am in a fancy parlor with all kinds of interesting people. I highly suggest you check them out if you life in SF. They play every Wednesday at Amnesia. These pictures are as the day progressed. I changed my outfit 3 times, ha! I love wearing different outfits throughout the day.

Having been a jewelry maker in some form for over 20 years, I have now graduated to chains and charms. I started with beading when I was really young and next the hemp necklaces that were so popular in the 90's and finally the chain jewelry that I create now. I decided this morning that I wanted to make something that was really meaningful to ME, a personal story of sorts. A piece that describes me and alludes to my personality with just a glance. A talisman is something that is supposed to possess magical powers and what better way to adorn ones self than with perfect little amulets that protect me from trouble. The ones I choose all have different powers and representations.

Quartz Crystal-Creates positive energy and balance.

Safety pin-A reminder of some of my passions, sewing/creating and art

Slice of animal horn-Represents my connection to animals and nature, two of my favorite things.

Key-A connection to my heritage and family, this key is from my grandparents old house. The number 3 which is printed on the key represents (funny enough) being creative, artistic, positive, imaginative, uplifting (all things I would like to consider myself).

Red glass bling-Red represents self awareness, gives courage and strength and offers stability. The bling also reminds me of my love of dressing up and feeling great.

Scissors-Represents my chosen career of designing hair and making people feel great as well as my love of sewing.

Bone-Reminds me of my love of Native American culture, the practice of worshiping the earth and being non wasteful.

Tigers Eye-Useful for focusing, clear thinking and good luck, protection from the evil eye.

While wearing this necklace I already feel great with so many personal items on my body. I have to admit while making it I hadn't put as much thought into it, other than things I liked and wanted to add. While making this list and doing the research I had fun and felt re-enlightened. Even though I used the internet to find all the info, I have books with all the various info that I have collected over the years. Which reminds me that I need to brush up on some of these things. I believe the manifestation of this necklace and post will being great things to my life.

Having your significant other leave town early on Valentines day morning is not the ideal way to spend the holiday. I managed to have a great time anyway with a nice picnic in the park and a short but very successful thrifting excursion. The weather was absolutely stunning today, I barely wore this jacket when I was walking around or sitting in the park. I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful place (you can see my house in this photo). This dress has managed to become one of my most recent go-to pieces. I am in love with it!

After almost donating these shoes on a few different occasions I decided to have some fun with them. Inspired by the recent ThreadBanger video and Doe Deere DIY, I grabbed some paint and gave it a go. These shoes were originally thrifted about 2 years ago, since white shoes are never very flattering I didn't really wear them. These Nine West babies are still in excellent condition. It was time to revamp them and give them the love the deserve. Black and White together are a huge trend for spring and summer so I decided to go with that as my inspiration.

First I taped the buckle out of the way on the bottom of the shoe.

Next I stuffed some paper in the toe to prevent the paint from dripping through the holes.

I used liquitex acrylic paint. I'm not sure how this will hold up yet so if you want to do a similar DIY, use your discretion. I know there are specific spray paints for shoes that many cobblers carry. I have used them before and its quick and easy if you follow the directions.

These are some of my favorite looks from F/W 2010 (first day). I am so excited about some of the trends I am seeing. I'm a huge fan of full length skirts which are great for tall gals like me. I've always been into high water pants, back in the early 2000's I used to wear vintage polyester printed pants of all sorts and they were always cropped. Flowy shorts are super fun and almost like wearing a skirt, the problem with those is finding the right cut when you have wider hips. Wait until you see what I wore to work yesterday, it's very eerie, the outfit is a mix of all these put together and it was created before I saw any pictures of the shows.

I am loving the harness in the first photo and wanting to do a DIY.

What terrible news I heard as I woke today. I just loved to peek through the Style.com archives and be inspired to create. The dress (below) that Drew is wearing was in a magazine we have at work and was categorized in the worst dressed section. I had no idea who the designer was, but I always LOVED it. I tend to stare over my clients shoulders as they read. I just kept thinking those magazine editors (US weekly ?) are crazy, or just clueless, for not seeing the genius in this dress The dress is fabulous and unlike anything I have ever seen. The intricacy of the pattern and the lines and colors are fab. I was reading some articles about his death earlier today and this dress was shown in a photo montage. But of corse...... the most amazing dress ever was was made by him. R.I.P To a visionary, he will be greatly missed and always cherished. Now If I could just get my hands on her hair......eeek!!

Can you tell I needed a pick me up today, dressing pretty and feminine always helps. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I have been thinking a lot about life lately and wanting to find a new path, one in which I feel like I am making a difference in the world. I love my job as a hair designer but I think I need something more in my life. Maybe this is what we all go through from time to time. Being in my 30's now, I feel it more than ever. Wanting to travel, be married, have kids. I need some more fulfillment. I did start making a dress today inspired by The Boudoir Queen, who I love. I am not happy with it so far so I will have to alter it some more and then I'll show it off here.

This is what I wore to work yesterday, I was getting some seriously crazy stares on the street. I find it really amusing when people stare at my outfits. It makes me feel good, knowing that I look different and am not a clone.

Btw, these new boots are from Bluefly. It was my first purchase on that site, they were a gift from my BF for my birthday. I had many problems with them and eventually got a damage refund from them. These boots are the most expensive shoes I have ever owned and I wanted them to be perfect. I have been searching from some simple riding boots for a while and these were exactly what I wanted. They came to me with some smudges on them and creases on the toes, it looked as if they had been tried on a bunch and returned. They were the last pair available and not in perfect condition but they were sold as new and perfect. They said they would give me a damage refund for $21.80 and then refunded me $17.80 (after this I could never return them). I had to email them to tell them they messed up (again). The whole experience was terrible and I'm not sure I will ever use the site again. I do love the boots though and am happy with the quality besides the damage (which is not too noticeable). I got a great deal on them but the hassle was dreadful.

I did it!! I cut my bangs, I have been contemplating doing it for a few weeks. You see, I have had bangs of some sort for over 10 years and had decided about 6/8 months ago to try something new, growing them out. After trying it out, It seems hippie hair is not for me. Bangs are so much more fun. So this is what I wore today to update the store and run some errands. I need to color my hair and I am trying to decide if I want to do it myself at home or have someone do it at work (I am a stylist at G squared salon). It's always easier to have someone at work do it, but sometimes I like to be more adventurous and do it at home. I want to add some bright orange streaks that peek out of the bottom and maybe a darker layer on the bottom of the fringe. I've always had crazy colored hair up until a couple years ago when it became more natural looking. I'm so bored.....what do you guys think?

This Motorcycle jumpsuit is so perfect, 100% silk, perfect condition and going in my store soon! It has zippers at the bottom to peg the legs (seen) which you can also take out to be more straight. Size SM/MED

This 50's dress is a gorgeous print and a perfect fit with fabric covered buttons all the way down.

What a cute little dress, another perfect fit. I am selling one very similar with long sleeves in my store right now.

This vest is so modern looking but is vintage, I can't wait to iorn it and wear it.

This might be my favorite piece today, its the perfect ballerina shape with a bell shaped skirt. There is lots of structure in the bottom hem so it really poofs. (it was hard to get a good photo)

Last but most fun are the new bracelets I found, the brass colored one is perfect for my necklace above!

Closet overhaul

Today was the day to go through my closet, organize it and purge all the things that needed to go. My shoes were a huge nasty pile up. This tends to happen after a couple months of wearing them, yes I am disorganized. I even have that handy shoe organizer which has really changed my life. This time around I decided to leave all the boots to the closet instead of trying to stuff them into the organizer (not working so well). I am hoping this will make it easier to stay organized. Hi my name is Jocelyne and I have a shoe problem and also a boot problem. I managed to purge quite a few pairs and organized my closet by color again which also gets out of wack after a few months. I feel I have come a long way since the last closet organization. Well maybe not in "staying organized", but having good places to stash things has helped a lot.

Antiquities In SF!

I love antiques and every chance I get I take pictures to remember them by. These are some of the recent places I have been with really neat antiques.

This first set of photos is from a guys house we met at the 500 club his place was extremely Selby worthy. If I was a guy this is the stuff I would have in my house (instead of vintage clothing) of corse I would still love to have any of it. This guy was a huge collector and his house was like a living museum. It was a magical mix of crazy clutter and really neat and very old things. He was playing the best old blues/Jazz, my favorite song was one called "the alcoholic blues" <----- check out the Link on youtube. He had about 3 of these really old record players, the ones that play the smaller and much thicker records. It was a really neat experience.

I've been a bad blogger! It's been so rainy here and dreary that all I want to do is read and drink tea. This is just a quick post to let you know I'm still here and have some great things lined up when I get my packages in the mail. Some of the things I got on my trip back home to Portland have yet to arrive and they are amazing. I can't wait to style up some outfits to show you. In the mean time, here is a photo I snapped of the most amazing full rainbow I have ever seen. Come to think of it I'm not quite sure I have ever seen a full rainbow. The picture only captures part of it. It was so vivid and bright, the contrast with the dark grey sky was magical. It only lasted for about 5 minutes and then disappeared into nothingness. Everyone in the neighborhood was talking about all day.

About a week ago i downloaded this amazing app from Itunes. It's the Hipstamatic app and I have become obsessed. I have been taking pictures of my cat, myself and anything else I can find. Today I wanted to wear something totally retro. This is sort of like something I would have worn in high school in the 90's. These altered jean skirts were really popular back then and this one is one I made a few years ago. Again, I played around with different coats and jackets. I started out today by going into my crafting studio to get creative then I saw these pants and then this shirt/dress across the room and something clicked. I decided that they would go well together and put them both on. I had this shirt/dress in my store until a few minutes ago, opps. I had never even tried it on as it looked to small but when I saw the pieces laying together I knew I had to give it a try. I really like the color combo. As I was playing dress up I decided to experiment with some different coats and jackets which then led me to a moment of clarity. It has come time for a new "favorite things post".
It's been a really long time since I have done a "favorite things" post. I can't believe I've never done a coats/jackets post because they are one of my favorite things to wear and I have a huge collection. The fact that I am older than many other fashion bloggers makes me more likely to have a larger collection of vintage just because I have been collecting for much longer and have seen many trends come and go. Yes folks, I am old. Ha!! Anyway I had a bit of fun today dressing up in some of my all time favorite coats and jackets some new to me and some I have had for years. Here are my self taken shots. I went home for the holidays, home being Vancouver, WA. No... not Canada, my home town in directly across the Columbia river from Portland, Or. I had a great time catching up with friends, shopping (thrift and vintage), hanging out with family and generally just being on vacation. It was a whirlwind of things to do, places to go and people to see. This post is very picture-tastic!!!

Lets start out with the shopping! This store Smut was the place that my friend found her NYE fur coat (pic 2nd to last photo below). This is the reason that I got the amazing fur cape from the last post.

A few months ago I won a 50$ gift certificate for savers thrift store from SFstyle. I still hadn't made the 15 minute trek out of the city to use it until yesterday. It was my birthday and I knew that would be the only way I could convince my sweet Thrift Phobic boyfriend to take me. He was a great sport as I looked though the store. Luckily, I am a pro and really fast so I made it happen in record time. I had already scored tons of great Items while I was back home in the Portland, OR area, more on those later.

I have so much updating to do, sorry I have been so MIA. I didn't bring my computer traveling so there was no way to update. In the last week besides all the regular fun holidays it was also my birthday. I am exhausted from all the fun but also invigorated and looking forward to a new year and a new start. Here are my Savers finds and a couple of the amazing things I got in Portland as well.

This amazing coat was a last minute purchase. It is so thick and stiff and in pristine vintage condition and looks great on. I had seen it while shopping but my boyfriend said it looked urine colored so I put it back even though I have been searching for a while for something in this color. I had already purchased all the other things and was sitting in the car. I couldn't stop thinking about it and I still had 14$ left in gift certificate money so I ran back in and purchased it. It was 17.99. I only spent about 5$ of my own money on all of the following items! There were also a couple little items that I didn't photograph, a really neat scarf and a little necklace too.

These next two are finds from Portland/Vancouver

This one is a vintage, real fur, cape and it's stunning. I found it for my friend at the thrift store while we were shopping together. She was looking for something similar for her new years eve outfit. She later found something more suitable and then gave it to me for my Birthday. It was found at the Vancouver, WA Value Village.

EDIT: I just did some online research on this tag and Thelma Todd was a famous actress who's life ended tragically. The tag says "furs by Thelma Todd Milwaukee WI" I have no idea if this was designed by her but I could not find any other fur makers with that name. I believe this is seal fur and very old, besides the fact that she died in the 1930's. Similar ones I found online were marked 1930-1940 this one is in like new condition which is remarkable for it's age.

EDIT 2: Come to find out via a member of the Yahoo group "ThelmaToddFans" the maker of the fur was in fact another Thelma Todd. It was fun to have a mystery to try to solve! Thanks to the person who let me know, the mystery is now solved.

I was searching for a new coat and found this perfect one at a really cute little vintage store in Portland called Rad Summer. It is reversible which I didn't notice until a few days after I had it. It was 24$.

My best friend who I have known since 8th grade came to visit me a few weeks ago. She still lives in the town we grew up in and has kids so doesn't get to travel much. It was so nice to have her here, she is the type of friend that you feel so at ease with and so comfortable talking about anything with. We decided to get all gussied up and head to the local gypsy/jazz/fun bar and one of the closest to my place, Amnesia. When we got there they had karaoke going on which I had no idea they did there. It was super entertaining listening to local missionites sing awesome songs. I didn't take any full outfit shots but you can see the tops of the beautiful vintage dresses we were wearing that night. We had a blast!

This is what I get when I ask my boyfriend to takes photos of me, he quickly does it and then they turn out all grainy and blurry. I need to find someone who wants to take photos, that enjoys it. Anyhow this is what I wore on Friday night to a birthday party at some friends house. I was going for a sort of 50's vibe and I like the silhouette. I've been a sick little pirate lately. It all started when I acquired my boyfriends terrible cold that seemed like the flu the first day then progressed into a never ending cold. Then I got a pain in my neck which progressed to my shoulders and back. It got worse when I slipped and fell down some stairs this weekend. I guess from here things have to get better because if they got worse I might just scream uncontrollably.

While attempting to shop for presents yesterday I found some gems for myself. Why is this always the case when I try to shop for others? You know, things that I couldn't resist because of perfect fit and price. In any case these new jeans are perfect. They are long, fit like a glove and a bit high waisted to cover up the lady parts that aren't what they used to be, and for 20$ a great bargain for Earl Jeans (originally 118$). And for the shoes, I couldn't believe it when I found them, tried them on and they were perfect. I immediately came home and did some google research which led me to Nordstrom where they were still for sale for 95$. I don't often buy heels being that I am 5'10 they usually make me feel more like a amazon woman that chic. When I do happen on a pair that are comfortable, uber stylish and with a reasonable heel height I get really excited. These babies are Franco Sarto"Tokyo's. The best price I could find online is from Zappos so click the link to be sent there. I got mine for 45$, so check your local Marshals first. I now have my perfect Christmas/New years/Birthday shoes.

I love this thrifted tee, it says "ready to rot" with little naughty fruits!

I finally found a nice beret at the thrift store, it's really thick and warm and a great complementing color to my red hair. How about these Chanel 50/50 knock off sunnies I found at a local import shop for 8$. I had been waiting for some knock off's since the originals were out. Love, I tell you, love!

The fruit of my labor, holiday shopping is exhausting! I love how these shoes look vintage and modern at the same time. They remind me of the chloe' suede multi strap wedges.

True story, the girls and I from work had to wear random/thrown together water proof gear to walk to the trains/busses/home because when it poured down rain on friday none of us were prepared for it. It is already impossible to get cabs here in SF on friday nights so we had no choice but to brave the dumping rain. I too am wearing a plastic cap under the weird hippie hat I found at the salon. I am also wearing my hair color cape because it is water proof and my coat was not. Susan on the left is a tini little lady who looks like a crazy overweight lady with her bags all under her grey smock and Timberly in the middle was the only one with a waterproof coat and a umbrella. We learned a good lesson, be prepared!

John Lennon is one of my hero's. The man was brilliant and such a beautiful soul. His beliefs are still as important today than ever, especially with the new war being waged in Afghanistan. We need to get more active and stand up for our beliefs. People today aren't as active with protesting. Fashion is nothing compared to saving lives and making our voices heard. Today is the 29th anniversary of Lennon's murder let us use that as a reminder to stand up in what we believe in. I am currently at home listening to his music and feeling sad and also glad that we have such beautiful music left behind to inspire us and new generations too.

I went to the thrift store today to try to find some cute holiday decor but there wasn't anything great for the holidays. However, I found some other amazing things including a Diane Von Furstenberg dress for 7.99$ It fits perfect and is the perfect gray and black combo for work. I also found a great wooden box and lamp at another store I stopped in on the way home. I am a fan of unique, foreign and tribal looking things for my living room so the box and lamp are a perfect fit right next to the cozy, big pile of pillows on the floor for lounging.

The cool Moroccan style lamp and wooden box used as a side table for the futon/pillow pile. I still need to get a proper lame shade but for now I put the metal thing (on top) that I also found at the thrift store today.

I found this amazing vintage fabric a few weeks ago at community thrift, one of my favorite thrift stores in San Francisco. I was going to try to make a dress with it but then this design popped into my head a couple days ago. I decided to execute it today and share it with you. The holidays are approaching and this is a great gift idea/project for those of us that are short on funds (isn't everyone these days) but have time and sewing skills. I suggest using a strong cotton type fabric for this design. You could use scraps and sew them together as well. You can click on the photos for more detail.

Here is the design, I folded the fabric in half so the bottom did not need to be sewn. The bow is a bit hard to see in this photo so see the details below.

The basic shape of the tote

The extra piece for the bow detail, make sure it is wider than the bag piece. Hem the sides of the bow piece.

To make the bow sew a small piece of the fabric together around the middle. It can me movable but make sure it is tight enough to stay in place well.

Next, sew the bow to the front piece of the bag, then turn inside out and sew the sides together. If you are confident you can just pin the bow to one side and sew it together all at once.

Sew part of the sides of the bow down (only to the pin shown) to the front of the bag so it doesn't sag. And then the attach the straps. The straps were made by using a piece of fabric about 4 inches wide and ironing both sides down and then folding it in half. You can also see the tote I used as a guide in the back ground here. Everyone has one so I would suggest using one that you like the size of and tracing it for the pattern.

I was so obsessed with MTV when I was younger, you know back when it was actually mostly videos. It was the coolest new thing to come along during my childhood and I would sit and watch it for hours. At that time I was living in Portland, OR in a beautiful, old, large home.

Watching MTV is still one of my most lucid memories in that house. The other being the

night a piece of jewelry disappeared, never to be seen again. Then our Christmas tree fell over in the middle of the night too. I swear that house was haunted. Ken Ober was a fixture on

MTV at this time and I am sad to hear he has passed on. I'm not sure why yet but I will update

when I find out. :( Something is wrong with the font layout right now so sorry its all jacked up, I have tried to fix it to no avail.

Modern Art

The Sf MOMA is having a Richard Avadon exhibit right now. We finally went to go see it today. Seeing his photos up close and personal was a amazing experience. Most of his art is simple but striking which allows the personality of the subjects to really shine through. In addition to the R.A. exhibit we checked out the rest of the museum which was really neat. There were lots of very simple art which most times I can't get into. A huge painting of a all grey canvas does not speak to me at all. I guess I am more into the art that seems like it takes a special talent and creativity to come up with.

I really liked the outfit I choose today, it was sort of a accidental, magical pairing. I put on my dress, tights, shoes and as I was finishing up the mending of my vintage kimono I tried it on to make sure I had sewn the sleeve back on correctly and it somehow looked perfect with the rest of my outfit. This is the same kimono I got a couple months ago and am in love with. I hadn't been wearing it because it was in need of repair. I am so glad I got a chance to fix it today which lead to it perfectly complementing the outfit I had already chosen to wear. I love happy accidents.

I am one of those people who has been dreaming of having glasses my whole life. Until this month my eyes were never bad enough. This being said, my eyes are still not really bad per say but they are bad enough that the insurance will pay for glasses now. I always knew I wanted to use these frames that were my grandmothers. So here I am new glasses and all. I am in love with them. These are my favorite of the two pairs that I have from my grandmother. The other pair is smaller and pinkish/silver. These seem to suit my face better so now I can see a tini bit better.

I just realized I passed my 400th post, wow. I can't believe it's been so long! Thanks to everyone for sticking with me and reading all this crazy talk! I started this blog thinking I had this great/unique idea to start a fashion blog, can you believe I thought I was the only one. Wow, was I naive or what. Since then I have had the pleasure of corresponding with so many sweet ladies and gents via this amazing thing we call the interwebs. I also realize I am a little fish in a huge pond. I am a social person in real life so being able to extend that into many parts of the world has been a great experience. I truly have enjoyed blogging and have finally given up trying to be a famous/popular blogger. I am much to old for that. :) I believe blogging is just another extension of my creativity and something that I enjoy no matter how many people are reading. I love to share things with all you and I hope you all have gotten something out of my ramblings. Thanks so much for reading this little project of mine, I am well aware that I am not the best writer. In fact english/writing was my least favorite subject in school. I do feel like writing this blog has greatly improved my terrible writing skills. So now I leave you a few of my favorite old outfit photos and DIY's that you might not have seen if you are new! :)
