UPDATE!!

Here is a picture of part of the fair.  I have to say I thought there was some really cool things but weren't as many innovative things as I expected from San Francisco.  After living in Seattle for 10 years and knowing many artists and seamstress's I must say Seattle is more creative.  Hmmm,  I wonder why that is.  I guess it could be that people are inside all the time due to  crappy weather in the winter, fall and spring or the fact that is it less expensive to live there so there are more artist types.  I did see the guy from the Threadbanger shows and meet the rep from Janome, that was my fave part, she was cool!

This seller has amazing deals and I would recomend the store out as they have a really cute vintage 60's hand tooled purse that I was drooling over for 8$.   I always carry huge oversized purses so it was too small for me but amazing none the less. 

This book looks so great, a dress making book from 1927 for 5$!

And this belt is to die for!  I can't wait to wear it!  Again at 8$ a great deal!

Yummy Sushi!

Here is my later-in-the-day outfit for thursday.  My boyfriend says I look like a 70's airline stuartist.  For some reason whenever I wear navy blue I get comments like that, it has happened before.  We went out for sushi and I finally got to be social after being all lonely all week with nothing to do.  I have been keeping busy, but I always function better when I have time constraints.  Tomorrow I work again, so all the many posts this week are to make up for the days when I actually have things to do.

Dorian Leigh, Cover Girl of the ’40s, Dies at 91

Dorian Leigh, who combined pristine blue eyes, curling eyelashes, an arresting intelligence and intoxicating sexuality to become one of history’s most photographed models — perhaps the first to truly merit the adjective super — died Monday in Falls Church, Va. She was 91.

Ms. Leigh graced seven Vogue covers in 1946, and in the next six years appeared on more than 50 more covers of various magazines.

Her images in Revlon’s “Fire and Ice” nail polish and lipstick campaign in the 1950s — “For you who love to flirt with fire ...who dare to skate on thin ice” — were shot by Richard Avedon and became Madison Avenue legend.

“Dorian was truly the best model of our time,” Eileen Ford, the doyenne of the modeling agency industry, said in an interview with The Roanoke Times in 1997. “She instinctively knew what every photographer wanted, and she came alive just at the moment the shutter clicked.”

Cecil Beaton wrote in his book “Photobiography” (1951) that Ms. Leigh was as demanding as the eminent photographers who shot her. He said she could convey many moods, including “the sweetness of an 18-century pastel, the allure of a Sargent portrait, of the poignancy of some unfortunate woman who sat for Modigliani.”

Just look at how beautiful this woman was, its quite incredible.  I find it funny that Janis Dickinson can claim she was the first super model when there were many amazing models before her, she's crazy.  These photos are so inspiring, I love her makeup and amazing clothing. Her beauty is quite classic and reminds me of my boyfriends sister who is a model. 

Another day off, another adventure

Apparently none of my clients need their hair done this week, I have yet to work.  This means that I have a 2 day work week starting tomorrow.  I have been hanging out relaxing and doing some thrifting and swapping via Buffalo Exchange.   I love the buffalo exchange here so much, the people who work there are the friendliest people.  How could you not love getting rid of things you don't wear and getting amazing new things with out shelling out any moolah.  I decided to take some pictures on my way to the store today because my neighborhood is so colorful.

These bright pink flower vines grow everywhere here and are so pretty!

Dress #1 from B.E., this nautical inspired dress fits amazingly and is vintage with a metal zipper.  I love the neckline, it has to be worn with something underneath.  It's gonna be fun to pair it with fun stuff.

Dress #2 is so sweet and feminine, I didn't realize the sleeves had been cut off until I got it home, but its perfect as is.  It is also vintage!

Dress #3 is vintage as well and super sheer, I can't wait to pair it up with one of my many hand dyed slips.  The fabric reminds me of the print on this dress in my etsy store, but in a  different fabric. 

Funny, on my way there I was thinking I needed some black sandals for summer. I looked around the store for some and didn't see any.   Then right before I was leaving I spotted these, in my size, new and super comfy!

Blog makeover

I decided it was time to redo the look of my blog. I was previously going for a romantic feeling but it was lost on the computer. I also realized the name of the blog was not present at the top, which was weird.  I  decided to use my etsy banner for my blog.  My boyfriend was sweet enough to make it for me out of a vintage fabric swatch that I found online here. He is really good at photoshop and made it look perfect. So for reference here is what it looked like when I found it. What do you think of the new look?

Trees falling with no wind

We went to the amazing Sparkys diner for a late night snack, and when we got home a huge tree branch had fallen on a car right in front of our house.  It was about 1:30 am when we got home and I'm not sure when it happened, but Im glad no one was hurt, we live on a really busy street with a even busier park on the other side of the street.  I guess you could say it was good timing, however I bet the  person who wakes up with their car window smashed in wouldn't think so.  The picture was really dark of the tree so I had to do some iphoto work on it, its still a bit weird but you can get the idea.

Finally my other hair model

I finally just got the photo of my other hair model.  I did really natural highlights on her as well as the cut, styling, and makeup for this photo.  Thanks to my gorgeous model Kristy for making the pictures so easy and flawless.  My boss took one photo and couldn't believe how photogenic she was.  We could've been done after the first photo but we took more because she was there. 

Another project today

I found this stripey, stretchy, cotton fabric months ago at Thriftown and have been wanting to make a dress.  Time just flys by so fast and then all of a sudden I have a idea for what it will look like.  I never sketch things out, they just come to me and then I create it.   I knew I wanted to make it with the stripes vertical because of the slimming nature of the lines.  I am really into bows now so I added a cute big bow on the front.  I had to stuff the bow a little bit to  make it not so floppy.  I added another shot of how I am going to wear it later in the week.    The blue belt was thrifted today and is amazing with studs on the back and rhinestones on the big buckle.
