DIY day!!

I have been slowly adding to and creating my halloween costume, here is the updated version of the headdress and the necklace I made.  The necklace is made with leather, a piece of some Vietnamese or Thai pants that I also cut off today (more on that in a minute) and a large fake turquoise stone.   The headdress is made with feathers from my father who is a hunter (duck I believe) and some white ones that were purchased, the rest of the supplies I had in my crafting stash.

I also decided to dye these jeans darker, besides the stains they have collected I have been wanting some dark flares a la Rachel Zoe.  For some reason it is easier to find the lighter ones these days so I made my own.  They aren't dry yet and they are much darker than the pictures shows them to be.  I think they turned out well but I'll let you know when they are dry.

This skirt is made from some amazing Vietnamese or Thai tribal pants that I have had for a while, they have always been too big but I had to purchase them because they were so beautiful.  I have been wanting to turn them into a skirt for a while and finally did it today after seeing a blog post that finalized the idea in my head.  The original pants were a elastic waist with huge flares on both legs about 1/2 way down.  I always knew the flares would make the best skirt and I was right.  I'm so glad I finally made it, thanks to the Stylist wanderer for the push.

On a hill overlooking

I headed to Golden Gate park for a free concert this weekend.  It was nice to leave the mission since I find myself never doing so.  GG park is gorgeous and the weather was perfect.  As we sat on the hill a lil friend showed up next to our blanket, it was the cutest gofer, I was so excited!

Halloween is coming!!

Here is the first part of my Halloween costume.  I found a amazing indian style suede dress on my vacation which is the basis of my inspiration.  I completed this headdress today.  I had all the materials except for the shells.  My father is a hunter so I have tons of feathers that I have had for years, I figured it's time to start using them :)

Quick pic

My Isight somehow managed to fix itself today after months of not working.  This means I again have the option of taking crappy photos of myself via my computer.  I am wearing me new feather earrings that I made the other day with messy braids ala Alexander Wang spring 10.

I won!!

I hardly ever win anything so when I got a email today from Diana of SF STYLE that I had won their contest for a 50$ Savers Gift Certificate I was thrilled.  Not only is it a great gift, it involves my favorite past time of thrifting.   I can't wait to document my trip and show you all what I get.  I am thinking I will spend this all on myself instead of thrifting for my store, unless I find something amazing that isn't the right size that I can pass on to my customers.

Thanks to SF style!!! check out their blog, it's really fun.

Another Pretty Pirate Designs original!

This is a dress I made last summer, I don't wear it often enough.  In fact lately I have decided I need to start wearing the things I have made with my own two hands.  This fabric is so beautiful, I thrifted it in Seattle before I moved to SF.  I had held onto it for a long time and was always too scared to cut it up because I didn't want to damage it.  I decided to use the embroidery on both the top and bottom, I thought It was the best way to get the most out of the gorgeous intricacy of the fabric.   It was the type of fabric with the design all concentrated on one side so I flipped it over for the top.  I thought that was pretty smart, ha!   I am standing in front of the salon which has scaffolding up right now as they are fixing the building up.

Packing

I am finally taking a small vacation this weekend to go see family in a small historic little town in Oregon, Jacksonville.  I started packing to see if I could keep it all in one small bag.  I usually end up packing way too many things and they don't go together.  This time I am really organizing things by color and versatility. The first photo is all the things i will bring and the next two are some of the ways I can wear them.  Of corse when I get there there will be other options and I'm sure I will end up wearing the pieces differently than these photos.  Sorry for the repeat in the third photo, I was having difficulties with Picnik today.

Things I am bringing
dark hudson jeans
White wide leg pants
Dark green, long sleeve, drapey sweater
Light green, short sleeve drapey sweater

Magical sky in the Mission

I'm so far behind on my posts again,  thanks for all the lovely comments on the last post.  I was really excited about that outfit.  This outfit is most likely the most casual of outfits you will see me wearing.  It was a lovely evening in the mission so we went for a drive to capture the amazing clouds that were painting the sky.  It's nice to actually have some outfit shots that aren't DIY in the mirror.

Another successful design

It's been one of those crafty days.  When I get inspired I can't stop creating.  There are periods of time where I feel no inspiration at all and don't feel like sewing for long periods of time.  However when I do get inspired it is so intense and I can't stop creating.  Today was a day like that.  I made a whole outfit.  First the pants then this tunic.  I wanted the design to be unique so I added crazy points to the sleeves and a rounded seam on the bottom.  This jersey/cotton is really soft and perfectly stretchy, I'm happy with the designs!!

First attempt successful!

After purchasing some amazing leggings from I Heart Norwegian wood  (I'm still patiently waiting for them). I decided I should try to make some as well.  I have been sewing for years and have had varying degrees of success sewing with really stretchy fabric.  It's a bit difficult but once you know the tension settings, the correct stitch to use and have more experience it's not so bad.  I found this amazing vintage stretchy velvety fabric in my stash, I have TONS of fabric most of which came from my amazing grandmother who was a avid seamstress.  I always wonder what she made with the pieces that I can tell are already cut up.   This fabric happened to be one of those pieces, It' such a crazy print I have no idea what she would have used it for.  Maybe a swimsuit perhaps.  I'm so happy these turned out so great. I can't wait to wear this one of a kind pair of leggings!
