Oscar!

This is what I am wearing to work today.  I have a habit of pushing the boundaries of our dress code just a bit.  Cream is just like white, right?  This beautiful vintage Oscar  De La Renta jacket I am wearing is from the gift certificate I won from SFstyle, thanks to J.T and Dyanna!

Abundant vintage

I went on a targeted thrifting excursion today.  I hadn't been to any thrift stores in San Francisco this year.   I wanted to find a few new things to wear to work.  I managed to get some great black pieces that will be perfect for the ol' job.

This is what I wore out
Necklace-Thrifted in home town over the holidays (love)
Shiny textured shirt-Thrifted in SF
Tank-Marshals
Gold metallic crazy jacket-Thrifted in hometown over the holidays
Jeans-Vigoss I've had for many years (recently altered them to be skinny jeans)
Boots-New from Etsy

And now for the loot.......

This Motorcycle jumpsuit is so perfect, 100% silk, perfect condition and going in my store soon! It has zippers at the bottom to peg the legs (seen) which you can also take out to be more straight. Size SM/MED

This 50's dress is a gorgeous print and a perfect fit with fabric covered buttons all the way down.

What a cute little dress, another perfect fit.   I am selling one very similar with long sleeves in my store right now.

This vest is so modern looking but is vintage, I can't wait to iorn it and wear it.

This might be my favorite piece today, its the perfect ballerina shape with a bell shaped skirt.  There is lots of structure in the bottom hem so it really poofs.  (it was hard to get a good photo)

Last but most fun are the new bracelets I found, the brass colored one is perfect for my necklace above!

Blast from the past

While cruising the interwebs today, I rediscovered these really old pictures, taken a huge burning man costume party in Seattle in 2004 by DB.  In the first few I am with my dear friend Nicole, this is pre her marriage and now the birth of her first child.  I borrowed this amazing dress from a friend, it was so fun to wear!

Closet overhaul

Today was the day to go through my closet, organize it and purge all the things that needed to go.  My shoes were a huge nasty pile up.  This tends to happen after a couple months of wearing them, yes I am disorganized.  I even have that handy shoe organizer which has really changed my life.  This time around I decided to leave all the boots to the closet instead of trying to stuff them into the organizer (not working so well).  I am hoping this will make it easier to stay organized.  Hi my name is Jocelyne and I have a shoe problem and also a boot problem.   I managed to purge quite a few pairs and organized my closet by color again which also gets out of wack after a few months.  I feel I have come a long way since the last closet organization.   Well maybe not in "staying organized", but having good places to stash things has helped a lot.

Before......eek

A close up......eeek again

The matching process

Awwww, much better (this is even before I hung up the huge pile up that was in my room)

I love how all the colors and textures look!

Antiquities In SF!

I love antiques and every chance I get I take pictures to remember them by.  These are some of the recent  places I have been with really neat antiques.

This first set of photos is from a guys house we met at the 500 club his place was extremely Selby worthy.  If I was a guy this is the stuff I would have in my house (instead of vintage clothing) of corse I would still love to have any of it. This guy was a huge collector and his house was like a living museum.  It was a magical mix of crazy clutter and really neat and very old things.  He was playing the best old blues/Jazz, my favorite song was one called "the alcoholic blues" <----- check out the Link on youtube.  He had about 3 of these really old record players, the ones that play the smaller and much thicker records.  It was a really neat experience.

The record player, check out the old lab set in the background

His old typewriter

Crazy old hats and books and such

Another record player

These next shots are from a place in San Francisco called "the box SF".  My friend Cindy (pictured below) does some work with them.  My boyfriend and I went to a benefit there a few weeks ago, for a little girl who has cancer.  There was some great live music, amazing food (by cindy)  and great people.  I took a few shots of some of the antiques there, here they are.

Some old tins ( I collect old tins)

Cool old wooden case of some sort

Quick post, it's a blurrrrr

I've been a bad blogger!  It's been so rainy here and dreary that all I want to do is read and drink tea.  This is just a quick post to let you know I'm still here and have some great things lined up when I get my packages in the mail.   Some of the things I got on my trip back home to Portland have yet to arrive and they are amazing.  I can't wait to style up some outfits to show you.  In the mean time,  here is a photo I snapped of the most amazing full rainbow I have ever seen.  Come to think of it I'm not quite sure I have ever seen a full rainbow.  The picture only captures part of it.  It was so vivid and bright, the contrast with the dark grey sky was magical.  It only lasted for about 5 minutes and then disappeared into nothingness.  Everyone in the neighborhood was talking about all day.

Please donate to Haiti

Here is a list of charities you can donate to help the victims of the terrible tragedy in Haiti.  Acording to CNN at 5pm eastern today, over 5 million has already been raised via texting.  I hope you are one of the caring people who has helped.  I donated via Red cross online yesterday.

CLICK HERE for a list of charities

From what I hear from aid workers that helped in previous disasters, the charities that are on the ground already are the fastest to use the funds, such as

Partners in Health, Lambi Fund and Doctors Without Borders...

About a week ago i downloaded this amazing app from Itunes.  It's the Hipstamatic app and I have become obsessed.  I have been taking pictures of my cat, myself and anything else I can find.   Today I wanted to wear something totally retro.  This is sort of like something I would have worn in high school in the 90's.  These altered jean skirts were really popular back then and this one is one I made a few years ago.   Again, I played around with different coats and jackets.   I think the one I will wear out will be the brown leather 70's jacket.

I'm wearing-
Navy and white striped shirt-Old Navy
Necklace-Self made
Skirt-self made
Boots-Minitonka
Belt-Vintge
Jean shirt/jacket-vintage

Blue leather jacket-vintage, thrifted in Oregon

Brown leather jacket-vintage, garage sale in Oregon

Blue and white blazer-Vintage korean tailor, thrifted in Oregon

EDIT: for the record I didn't end up wearing this outfit out of the house, there was just something about it that was not quite right for me.  I always have fun dressing up and it's fun to document.  I did end up wearing the striped shirt with skinny back jeans, brown granny ankle boots and a big chunky knit navy blue thigh length sweater.  Well at least I tried to wear something that was out of my comfort zone, even it if didn't work out.  :)

Favorite things, jacket and coat edition!

I started out today by going into my crafting studio to get creative then I saw these pants and then this  shirt/dress across the room and something clicked.  I decided that they would go well together and put them both on.  I had this shirt/dress in my store until a few minutes ago, opps.   I had never even tried it on as it looked to small but when I saw the pieces laying together I knew I had to give it a try.  I really like the color combo.  As I was playing dress up I decided to experiment with some different coats and jackets which then led me to a moment of clarity.  It has come time for a  new "favorite things post".
It's been a really long time since I have done a "favorite things" post.  I can't believe I've never done a coats/jackets post because they are one of my favorite things to wear and I have a huge collection.  The fact that I am older than many other fashion bloggers makes me more likely to have a larger collection of vintage just because I have been collecting for much longer and have seen many trends come and go.  Yes folks, I am old.  Ha!!  Anyway I had a bit of fun today dressing up in some of my all time favorite coats and jackets some new to me and some I have had for years.  Here are my self taken shots.  I'm wearing no makeup and my hair just came out of a topknot so please excuse the sloppiness.  I hope you enjoy.  Which is your favorite?

So this is what I've been up to

I went home for the holidays, home being Vancouver, WA.  No... not Canada, my home town in directly across the Columbia river from Portland, Or.  I had a great time catching up with friends, shopping (thrift and vintage), hanging out with family and generally just being on vacation. It was a whirlwind of things to do, places to go and people to see.  This post is very picture-tastic!!!

Lets start out with the shopping!  This store Smut was the place that my friend found her NYE fur coat (pic 2nd to last photo below).  This is the reason that I got the amazing fur cape from the last post.

Smut had a great mix of all kinds of fun vintage things.

These vintage photos were so much fun to look through.

This next store, Rad Summer was where I found my new favorite coat.

The window display at Rad Summer.

Besides shopping I did a lot of hanging out with my best friend who I have known since 8th grade.  I just turned 32 on January 3rd so thats a long time.

We went to a Blazer game, it was so much fun.

My home town had it's first snow of the year, which was so beautiful to see.  Now that I live in California it's not a regular view for me.

Here I am on New Years Eve with my ladies.  The patchwork fur coat on Jen is from Smut, see above.

My outfit is
Dress-30's
Necklace-vintage rhinestones
40's hair and makeup

Close up of the hair and makeup, I was wearing eyelashes too.
